English is often being the scared lesson for most of the students in junior high school or in senior high school, especially for them who dislike it. They have study English for a long time, but only a few who mastering it. Some reasons of why they dislike English:
English is difficult; they have to memorize vocabularies, grammars and the others.
There is no partner in practicing English
There is no complete facilities and the other reasons
Only a few students who aware that English are important language for them and what the useful. This fact makes many teachers worried.
English as a global language at this moment is irrefutable fact. We use English as international language. We can speak with others people in the any country with English and Most of the popular books, written in English. Newspaper, television, and the others mass media use English as the medium language. Therefore, mastering English at this moment is very important, especially for the student. By mastering English, we can master many sciences, because most of them written in English. Therefore, Indonesians must be master of English and can know any knowledge. As an Indonesians, we are conscious of our weakness in various aspects. As a one of first step to improve generation nation, government set up English lesson for schools in Indonesia, to think of how important English is as explanation above.
Even though the reality, English become to the scare lesson for students. To overcome that problem, they need strategy to mastering it. Some of them are:
The students must positive thinking that English is easy, interesting, and very exciting. Nevertheless, because English is not our mother language, so, most of the students negative thinking, it difficult. They must confident that nothing impossible in this world if they want to try included the English. They must show that they can to grasp and empower world with study English. Certainly, it needs the strong willingness. Remember, that where a will is; there is a way.
The students must aware the important of English. By understanding the useful of English, the students automatically, will bear the enjoying and interested in studying English, and have the spirit to reach their destination with English. They study English as a requirement, not as a pressure. Because if they study it as a pressure, they will not get the good result, but they just waste their time to do something who they hatefully and it is useless work.
To create the nice situation to study English, they can use some varieties of medium to study English, because if the student only use one way, they will bore. Such as listening English music, watching English music, visiting tourist place to practice their English with the native and the other.
Invite their friends who like English. They can study English together, practicing their English ability. Because the key to mastering English is, make so many practices. Make their ability always develop. Do not afraid, shy to practicing English, and do not afraid make a mistake.
Student must be creative. They can translate the any text which written in English, Such as translate the Jakarta Post newspaper, News Week, novels and the others. When they find the vocabularies and they do not understand the translation, they can open the dictionary. It can help students to improve their English. If they cannot find the English newspaper to translate, they can translate any English text, such in packs of noodle, soft drink etc. To add the vocabularies and remember it, they can make a little note has the shape of card. Students can read it when they have a free time, such when they queue up in the school canteen, in the bank, and the others. If they have many vocabularies, they can fast know English lesson.
If they have much money, they can join English course, like in ELTI, LIA or the other department. In this activity, they can find the method in studying English, because the teacher has large experience in teaching English.
There are many methods in studying English. English is not difficult if the students have high spirit to mastering it. There are many methods in order English not as boring lesson.
The fact that we must impressed in this writing is English is so important for all students. They can master science by mastering English first. To make it not as a bored and not interesting lesson, there are so many methods. The last of this writing is “Let’s mastering English, we will master the world.”
